Supplemental Security Income
Unlike SSDI, Supplemental Security Income does not come from payments that employees make into their Social Security accounts through the government. Rather, it is a federally funded program designed to provide supplemental income to anyone who is age 65 or older, blind, or disabled who has little income and few resources
The SSA considers the term disabled to apply to anyone who has a medical or mental impairment that prevents them from performing any substantial gainful activity, could result in death, or expected to last a minimum of 12 months time. Although the criteria for SSI are similar to SSDI, there is also a financial need threshold which must be met.
During the process of applying for and appealing decisions for SSI, you will probably be required to see a government physician who will perform an exam based upon your claimed disability and make a determination. This process can be lengthy and complicated. Let Karns Law Group take the pressure and stress off this situation for you. Having an experienced SSI attorney handling your case will allow you to relax and live your life.
